Q: What causes window tinting to bubble and change colour?
A: Films that turn colour are normally made with dyed material
and will turn purple when exposed to the sun. Installation of
cheap films more often than not makes bubbles. That is why we
recommend spending the extra money to get it installed professionally.
Q: How durable is window tinting?
A: The film itself is installed on the inside of the glass and
is coated with a high quality scratch resistant layer for protection.
The hard scratch resistant coating does an excellent job of protecting
your tinted windows from everyday use. Take care though as it
is still possible to tear even the best film with a sharp or hard
object, such as your seat belt buckle, hitting the film.
Q: Why on some windows do you get a silver line around the edge?
A: On some windows, mainly non-winding, there are black dots around
the edge of the glass. This is called the dot matrix and is produced
using a Teflon type material, which is factory fitted. When the
film is applied it sticks to the dot matrix and not the glass,
which traps air and water between the dots giving it the silver
look. In some cases it can't be helped where as others will evaporate
and look fine. It all depends on the thickness of the dot matrix,
which will vary depending on the make and model of the car.
Q: I have noticed on some cars the film around the edges was
starting to peel off, why?
A: Again, it could be because of the dot matrix. The Teflon type
material is shiny and can make it difficult for the film to stick
to the glass. By just taking of the shiny layer you allow the
adhesive to stick much better, which will ensure the film does
not peel off. Another reason might be because the adhesive was
touched by the fingers, leaving fingerprints. This makes it less
likely to stick and contaminates the film.
Q: I have just had my windows tinted and it's all hazy, why?
A: The haziness just means that you still have water between the
film and the glass. This will dry out depending on the temperature
and how much sun exposure the windows receive during the day.
Under normal conditions it might take 1-2 weeks where as in the
winter the drying time might take double 2-4 weeks.
Q: I have seen small silver circles, mainly dotted around the
edges of the window, why/what are they?
A: When the film is applied any dust particles in the air or any
contact with the film will prevent it sticking to the glass and
will trap air and water. This is called contamination. If you
look carefully you will see a tiny spec of dust at the centre
of the circle. We go to great lengths to reduce this kind of contamination.
Q: How long will it take to do a whole car?
A: We would normally ask you to leave the car with us for the
day. This gives the film time to be fitted and we can check on
the curing process (drying time) before collection.
Q: What do I use to clean the film?
A: We recommend a special aerosol cleaner designed for the job,
giving extra protection. Available from the Tint Wizard.
Q: Is there a guarantee?
A: The film manufacturers give a five year guarantee against film
defects, this of course does not apply to customer damage, wear
and tear etc.
